You may have heard that Will Smith and Chris Rock had a bit of a ~moment~ at this years’ Academy Awards ceremony. After Chris Rock made a, frankly, very tired joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s bald head being similar to G.I. Jane (he said “Can’t wait for G.I. Jane 2”) Will Smith stormed the stage, slapped Chris, and then returned to his seat to scream from his chair “keep my wife’s name out of your f**king mouth” several times. Will went on to win Best Supporting Actor and went on a tearful tirade about how God has ordained him to be a “vessel of love” to protect his family. It was bizarre.
The audience was confused and many thought it might be part of the show or staged. But during the commercial break, Will had to be calmed down by peers and the lawyers were out on the floor in droves.
