BREAKING: Nancy Pelosi In Taiwan, Is It Good Or Bad?

Published

on

Nancy Pelosi touched down in Taiwan on August 2, 2022 and was the first Speaker of the House to do so since Newt Gingrich. President Biden publicly begged her not to go, which is sort of the crux of the question: Is this visit good or bad American policy?

On the one hand, a good American leader cannot be told where they can and cannot go by a foreign nation (unless it is their own nation). So China laying down a thick icing of threats to Speaker Pelosi to me only makes me want her to stay longer in Taiwan. If anything would motivate my desire for a U.S. official to visit Taiwan, it’s China telling us we can’t. Never put America in a corner, even if it is Nancy Pelosi.

Additionally, the United States has been long-time trade partners with Taiwan including the trade of military-grade weapons. So it seems petty and a little ridiculous that China’s line in the sand is a goodwill visit from Speaker Pelosi when we’re literally selling Taiwan weapons and are compelled by U.S. law to do so.

But on the other hand, Joe Biden is such a feckless know-nothing that I have absolutely 0 confidence that America would stand strong against the forces of China. For the first time in my life, I do not have faith in the strength of America’s military or defense systems against a foreign power. Not because of our servicemen or our technology but because of the person charged with wielding those tools, Sleepy Joe Biden.

Also, I do not trust Nancy Pelosi at all. So there is a lingering concern in the back of my mind that she has ulterior motivations for this visit. Placing the tinfoil hat squarely on my head, is it a goodwill visit? Or does Nancy literally want China to retaliate? Would another “accidental lab leak” or nationwide hack suit her just fine?

If President Trump were still at the helm, I don’t think a sitting speaker would have dared to visit a foreign country against his will, and further he’d have taken the reins himself like he did when he negotiated a brief peaceful meeting between the leaders of North and South Korea. Unfortunately with Biden driving the clown car that is America now, it seems very unclear what the ramifications of Pelosi’s visit will truly be.
