8 Things That Lasted Longer Than Liz Truss’s Prime Ministership
British Prime Minister Liz Truss resigned today after only 44 days of service. I personally LOVE to see women in leadership breaking records. It’s truly inspirational. The resignation came after the embattled Truss’s economic plan was found to be inadequate in the face of the crumbling British economy.
Here are 8 things that lasted longer than Liz Truss’s trailblazing short tenure:
- The Impeachment of Donald Trump
Running between December 18, 2019 and February 5, 2020 the impeachment proceedings lasted a whole 48 days which is plenty of time to go through a pile of 0 evidence and “decide” something you already decided the day he was elected.
- Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries marriage
Kim Kardashian was married to her husband Kris Humphries for 72 days and is famously considered to be one of Hollywood’s shortest marriages. Longer than Liz’s PM run though.
- Katie Hill’s Career as Congresswoman
Katie Hill was a Congresswoman from January 3, 2019 to November, 3 2019 before being asked to leave by Speaker Pelosi due to inappropriate sexual relationships with campaign staff. That is a full ten months versus Liz’s 45 days.
- The average prison sentence for participants in the January 6 riots
On average individuals who were arrested at the Capitol building during the events of January 6 have been sentenced to only 45 days of jail time due to the low level nature of their crimes (primarily trespass related). Liz did not last as long as those short sentences.
- The Taliban takeover of Kabul in 2021
It only took the Taliban 105 days to fully take over the Capitol city of Afghanistan despite the United State’s major base and embassy within the city. Liz rose and fell in less than half the time!
- The amount of time 80,000 cruise crew members were trapped at sea during COVID-19 lockdowns
Over 80,000 crew members on various cruise lines who had the misfortune of being out to sea in the days that the entire world shut down were trapped on board the ships when their home countries refused to allow the ships to dock and repatriate the crew, including San Francisco and other American ports. While many guests were allowed to be rescued and repatriated, different rules applied to crew who were abandoned at sea for several months. Liz could never.
- The length of the relationships before proposals on 90-Day Fiance
The popular TLC reality show brings couples together from a long distance and asks them to decide if they’re going to get married within 90-days. Liz’s fate was decided much faster.
- The length of time Beanie Feldstein played Fanny Brice on Broadway
Beanie made it a whole six-months as Fanny Brice before being replaced by Lea Michelle even with very poor reviews. So imagine Liz being able to out-do that short run and go only a month and a half.
