WTF Is Obama Doing In England?

The recent news of former US President Barack Obama’s surprise visit to Downing Street has left many Americans scratching their heads. While touted as “informal talks” with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, the timing and optics of this meeting couldn’t be more baffling, especially with the upcoming US presidential election in November.

For starters, it’s no secret that Obama has been a vocal critic of Brexit and a staunch supporter of the European Union. His interference in British affairs during the Brexit referendum, where he warned of dire consequences for Britain should it choose to leave the EU, was not only unprecedented but also a slap in the face to the millions of British citizens who voted to take back control of their country.

It sends a confusing message to the American electorate, particularly to conservative voters who are already wary of the Biden administration’s policies, and to the British people who already thought their leaders were being too weak on implementing Brexit.

Instead of extending a warm welcome to Obama, Prime Minister Sunak should be focusing on cultivating ties with leaders who share our values of sovereignty and self-determination. Rather than cozying up to a former president whose policies have often been at odds with British interests, it’s time for England to prioritize relationships that truly serve the best interests of both nations.
