Easy Last Minute Costumes For The Culturally Literate Conservative

Published

on

Halloween is almost here and you’ve almost certainly been invited to a friend’s costume party or a church Trunk or Treat. So what are you going as? Here are some easy ones that are on trend for 2024:

  1. Theo Von

Theo Von is a popular podcaster with a distinct style. He recently went mega viral interviewing President Donald Trump for his podcast. The episode reached 13 million views. Dressing up like Theo is pretty easy and recognizable. You’ll need a mullet wig and a fake goatee for sure (unless you have the real deal). Then add a backwards cap (UFC would be a great touch) and a black t-shirt of some kind. Von famously wore a Dustin Porier t-shirt to a UFC fight which Donald Trump attended, so a Dustin Porier shirt would make the costume even more clear. If you’re doing a trunk or treat or something that allows prop set up, a fake podcast microphone would sell the whole narrative. All of these items are available easily on Amazon and other quick ship retailers.

  1. Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce

The iconic couple is easily recognizable and easy to costume. Whether you love them or hate them, the costume is easy to assemble and easy to recognize. You could try gender swapping for a bit of comedy. For Travis, you need a fake mustache, a Chiefs jersey or t-shirt, a bucket hat (he’s been wearing a lot of those lately) and maybe some football shoulder pads or stuffing to make the point. For Taylor Swift, you’ll need a blonde wig with bangs, bright red lipstick and she’s been favoring thigh high boots and corset tops lately.

  1. Anna Delvey on Dancing with the Stars

Anna Delvey famously went on Dancing with the Stars wearing an ankle monitor with her sparkly dance costumes. When she got eliminated and was asked what she learned from the experience she said “nothing.” Classic Anna. This is an easy costume. Essentially dress as a salsa dancer with a sparkly fringe dress and some ballroom shoes and add an ankle monitor. Throw in a blonde wig to really sell it.

  1. President Trump surviving his assassination attempt

President Donald Trump’s iconic photo with his fist in the sky and blood on his ear took all of our breath away and makes for a great and easy costume which pays homage to the President. You’ll need a Trumpy wig, a navy blue suit, and a crisp white shirt as well as some fake blood for your ear.

  1. Tyler Owens and Kate Carter from Twisters

Twisters was one of the biggest movies of the year and a pretty easy couples costume idea. All you’ll need for Tyler is a cowboy flannel (think piping and pearl buttons), and a cowboy hat. For Kate, you’ll need a tank top and a camera strap. Consider speaking in a terrible American accent. This costume probably doesn’t work unless it’s the couple together.

  1. Blue Screen of Death (from Crowdstrike outage)

This year a crowdstrike went down causing massive network outages in airports across the country resulting in millions of flight cancellations and delays and a big heaping mess. Airports were not the only impacted entity but they made the most news. The ‘Blue Screen of Death’ became the mascot of the outage and also an extremely simple and hilarious halloween costume. All you need is a t-shirt with the image printed (sold on Amazon and other retailers) and some blue pants. If you want to go all out you could paint yourself blue and wear a blue hat or wig.

  1. The girls from The Toast

Claudia and Jacky Oshry are two of the more recognizable podcasters out there. With their iconic laid back morning show, the funny gals would make a great costume for whatever event you need to attend. This one only works with two. For Jacky you’ll need a red wig and for Claudia you’ll need dark brown or black. For both, try matching sweat outfits in pastel colors. If you’re doing a Trunk or Treat or have room for props and staging, a fake podcast mic and some tropical prints would go a long way.

Getting into the spirit doesn’t have to require a lot of planning or something over the top. There are plenty of other ideas out there! Good luck on your spooky holiday plans.
