Selena Gomez’s Emotional Rant Misses the Ugly Truth About Open Borders

Selena Gomez recently took to Instagram with a tearful video, railing against the deportation of undocumented immigrants under President Trump. She called it an attack on Mexican families and children. But, she was wrong.
Look, I’m not heartless. I can tell she means well. And yes, she’s passionate—good for her!
But let’s be real: the now-deleted video (smart move, Selena) went hard on the emotional theatrics but it was painfully shallow on actual facts.
Here’s the truth she and her die-hard liberal fanbase don’t seem to grasp: OPEN BORDERS ARE NOT COMPASSIONATE.
In fact, they enable some of the worst human suffering imaginable.
Lax border policies don’t just “let people in.” They invite cartels and human traffickers to exploit desperate migrants, especially women and children, for profit.
The numbers are horrifying. A quick Google search (which Selena clearly didn’t do) shows that in 2021, nearly 2 million migrants were apprehended at the U.S.-Mexico border. Over 400,000 more evaded capture. Among them? A heartbreaking 147,000 unaccompanied migrant children—children who were not invited to live the American dream but more likely sucked into a nightmare of abuse and exploitation.
Cartels prey on these kids, using them as pawns to overwhelm the system. Once across the border, these children face horrors unimaginable: forced labor, sexual abuse, and trafficking. The Coalition Against Trafficking in Women estimates that 60% of Latin American children attempting to cross the border are captured by cartels. Let that sink in.
This isn’t compassion—it’s chaos.
Under the Biden administration, traffickers found their best friend in open borders policies. The infamous catch-and-release approach? It was a golden ticket for cartels to smuggle drugs, weapons, and humans. Don’t believe me? Ask Tim Ballard, a renowned advocate against child exploitation, who testified before Congress about the reality that children are sold up to 20 times per day for years. YEARS!
Who’s benefitting from this? The children and families Selena claims to be crying for? Or the cartels, laughing all the way to the bank? Spoiler alert: it’s the cartels.
Even Biden’s Attorney General, Merrick Garland, had to admit that cartels exploit these weak policies to overwhelm our border. And yet, the Biden administration pretended this wasn’t their fault. Now, Trump is going to fix it.
Meanwhile, liberals would rather scare everyone into believing that strong borders are the enemy. They push fear of law enforcement, fear of secure borders—but here’s what we should ALL fear: the truth about open borders.
Human trafficking is modern-day slavery and it thrives under open-border policies. It’s the women and children who pay the price, suffering unimaginable abuse while Washington and Hollywood elites post themselves crying on Tiktok from their mansions.
Selena’s emotional plea might get her applause from some, but her compassion without real law and order is meaningless.
If we truly care about children and families—not just about racking up likes on social media—we need secure borders. Secure borders protect children from being trafficked, women from being exploited, and families from being destroyed by cartels. While a lawless society might feel warm and fuzzy in theory, it’s a gift to traffickers and a disaster for the vulnerable in practice.
Under President Trump, we deported criminals, exposed exploitation, and brought perpetrators to justice. That’s what real compassion looks like.
