WHAT IS BRAT?: Kamala Is, And Here’s Who Isn’t
Recent media pieces have reported that young women and the LGBT community have been referring to Kamala Harris as ‘Brat’ but they mean it in a good way (or perhaps a neutral way). ‘Brat’ is inspired by the musical artist Charlie XCX’s newest album of the same title. The essence of ‘brat’ is to be messy, boisterous, brash, dressed loudly, and out late. There are connotations of drugs and alcohol but they aren’t per se essentially to the brat vibe. The trend is associated with the color green because of the Charlie XCX album cover. Think Brat Pack of the 1980s and Bratz dolls of the early millennium. New year, same vibe. Being brat is by-and-large considered good but not being brat isn’t a condemnation (per the proverbial online movement).
So if Kamala Harris is ‘brat’ – who else fits the mold? And who definitely doesn’t? This handy politico brat chart should clear things up.
