The Federal Election Commission (FEC) has revealed the truth about small-dollar donations, and boy, does Ron DeSantis have some catching up to do if he’s serious about taking on the Trumpinator for the GOP nomination.

Small-dollar donations, the ones amounting to $200 or less, are like the heartbeat of grassroots support for a candidate. They’re the telltale signs of who’s winning hearts out there. And you know what? It’s been like a crystal ball of predictions, almost always nailing the winner in the past.

So, let’s take a peek at the numbers, shall we? Donald Trump, the OG MAGA KING, has roared ahead with a staggering 81.8% of small-dollar donations.

Vivek Ramaswamy, Chris Christie, Mike Pence, Tim Scott, and Nikki Haley have all managed to grab their slices of the small-dollar pie, with percentages ranging from 57.5% to 29.3%. Not too bad for candidates whose actual candidacy is basically a secret to a lot of America.

And then there’s the man of the hour, Ron DeSantis, who’s languishing at a mere 17.3%. Ouch, that’s gotta sting a bit.

Sure, DeSantis pulled in a cool $20 million during his first six weeks of campaigning, but here’s the kicker – a whopping 71% of that came from the deep pockets of wealthy donors. Not exactly the grassroots vibe he might want to project.

Now, I hate to be the bearer of bad news (okay, maybe I don’t mind it too much), but things have gone downhill for DeSantis since March 30. Back then, he was sitting pretty at 30% in the polls. Today? Well, let’s just say he’s got some work to do, as his average has plummeted to a meager 18.4%.

On the flip side, Trump’s numbers are on a journey to the stars. He’s gone from 45% to a commanding 52.4% over the same period. The Trump train is chugging full steam ahead! CHOO CHOO!

Now, don’t get me wrong, it’s early days in this GOP primary circus, and anything can happen. But the numbers don’t lie. DeSantis has a mountain to climb.
